Thomas Telford, Engineer (1757–1834)


Thomas Telford carried out an inspection of the Lea Bridge Works as they neared completion in 1834, including the new aqueduct and reservoirs and the new intake from the Lea at the tail of theLea BridgeMills.

On17th February 1834,Telford reported that ‘These Works are now on the eve of completion, and will be in action in the month of June of the present year, within the time allowed by the Act ofParliament’.

Telford built the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen canal, the London-Holyhead Road (now the A5) and the Menai Suspension Bridge.
