William Gilbee

William Gilbee

Gilbee was one of the ‘Adventurers’ who purchased land at Lea Bridge and constructed the Hackney Waterworks in 1767.

This may be the same William Gilbee who purchased the Wick estate in 1796 from the widow of Edward Woodcock vicar of Watford.

He possibly later purchased the manor called Wick House, a small mill and a twelve acre pleasure ground called the Islands.
