The Middlesex Filter Beds, the Thames Water Depot and the Waterworks Nature Reserve and Golf Centre (collectively referred to as ‘Lea Bridge Waterworks’) lie on the eastern and western banks of the River Lea, south of Lea Bridge Road. These sites together form a single historic industrial development area that played an early and significant role in the development of London’s water supply. The term ‘Lea Bridge Waterworks’ refers to all those works associated with the extraction, storage, treatment and supply of fresh drinking water at Lea Bridge across many centuries.
